Elk Scoring FAQ
What does 6x6 mean for elk?
Six points per side, including the main beam tip. That counts brow, bez, trez, sword, fifth point, and beam tip. A 7x7 adds the royal; an 8x8 imperial adds the seventh point.
What is a trophy bull elk score?
300 is respectable, 330 enters trophy class, 360 makes the B&C Awards minimum, and 375 enters the all-time record book. The world typical record at 442 5/8 (Utah, 2016) is roughly 60 points above the next-best state records — an outlier in every sense.
How do Roosevelt elk differ from Rocky Mountain elk in scoring?
Roosevelt are scored as a separate category — lower minimums (275 typical vs 375 for Rocky Mountain). They carry heavier, darker antlers but typically shorter tines, a tradeoff shaped by their wet coastal habitat.
